Prepare what you want to check
Bring your criteria and questions. Confirm the arrangements for a visit and any test drive with the person responsible for the vehicle beforehand. This page is not a test-drive reservation.
Look at everyday uses
Try the seats you will use, check access to storage and look at trunk loading. If you need to carry a large item, note its dimensions instead of relying on memory.
Record your impressions
Seat comfort, driving position, visibility and understanding the controls are useful observations. Write them down once the vehicle is stopped in a suitable place. Keep your attention on driving during a test.
Keep impressions separate from an inspection
A visit or test drive does not replace an appropriate mechanical assessment. Discuss technical questions or concerning noises with a qualified professional. Record what you notice without attempting a diagnosis.
Complete your brief
After the visit, return to your criteria and mark each as confirmed, not met or still to verify. Keep outstanding questions visible before deciding on the next step.
